What are Discord Bots?
What are Discord Bots and how they work.
Before getting started, you may want to know more about Discord bots and what they can do. Well here, I will explain everything you need to know about them.
What can Discord Bots do?
Discord bots can do all kinds of things, but to function, you need to create what is called an application command. These are used to communicate with your bot and give it instructions.
Discord Bots can also listen for actions, and we refer to these as event listeners. These, as stated before, listen for actions such as:
The bot coming online
A member joining a server
Messages sent by members
Interactions (Buttons, Select Menus, Modals)
These are just a few of the major ones used when coding these bots.
How do Discord Bots run?
Discord bots run on a framework, such as Node.js or Python. When you see someone talk about Discord.js or Discord.py (The most popular of these libraries) they are referring to modules that were built on these frameworks. These modules are used to communicate with the Discord API.
For example, Discord.js is built on Node.js, which is an event-driven JavaScript runtime. Node.js is used to build scalable network applications and also Discord.js.
